  1. Borrow:Loans can only be done in person with your own personal library card. Teachers can ask their assistants (with their own personal ID) to borrow books for them with the requested teacher’s IDs along with a stamped “Certification of Teacher Proxy borrowing request” form. The proxy borrowing request can be done by students with disabilities as well.

    1. If there is an attachment in the book loaned, the attachment must be returned along with the book. Fail to return the attachment will result in failure in book return.
  2. Return:
    1. Books must be returned either at the circulation desk or the “drop box” before the due date. You can verify your return with the library staff when you return your books at the circulation desk.
    2. Books loaned can be returned to either the Sanxia Library or the Taipei Reading Room.
    3. There are book return boxes located in front of the entrance of Library. Books can be returned during library closing hours. Books returned via the “drop box” will be processed within the following business day. Please make sure the books returned belong to NTPU library, you will have to come and pick up any misplaced book in person. Books are considered “returned” after they are scanned through the computer. You may confirm your returned books through the computer registry.
  3. Renewal:
    1. The books requested can be renewed within 7 days before the due date if the book is not reserved and overdue.
    2. Books can be renewed for 3 times and Project Plan books can be renewed for 2 times.
    3. You can process book renewals online, come in person or contact the circulation desk of the Sanxia Library or the Taipei Reading Room.
  4. Reserve
    1. No matter the materials you need had been checked out or are on the bookshelf, you can make the reservations.
    2. Reservation Procedure: Catalog Search Enter your register number (along with library card number, password, pick up branch and date) or reserve at the circulation desk.
    3. Once the reserved materials have entered or been returned to the library, an e-mail notification will be sent the next day and the material will be kept on shelf for seven days. Please come and pick up your reserved materials with your library card as soon as possible.
    4. If the reserved materials are no longer needed, please cancel your reservation online or contact the circulation desk for cancellation. If the reserved material is not cancelled or not picked up for 3 times within 120 days, your right to make reservations will be suspended for 60 days.
    5. You will be able to reserve the material again on the day after your cancellation of the same material.
  5. Overdue and Fines:

    The overdue fines are charged based on the due dates and start accumulating from the day after the due dates. If the books you checked out are overdue, your authority will be blocked 1 day per item or you’ll be charged NT$5 dollars per item.
    To avoid the problem of overdue books, we recommend that you check your Email daily. In this way, you can make sure the due dates of your checkouts and avoid overdue fines. Additionally, you have to renew books within 7 days before the due date. Once the books are overdue, you cannot renew them.

  6. Lost or Damaged Material Fines:

    You must report any lost or damaged library materials, and complete the compensation procedure within 90 days of your report of lost/damaged library materials. Overdue fines will not be charged during this period. Compensation for lost or damaged materials:

    1. Hard copies cannot be compensated with paperback copies.
    2. New edition copies can be used for compensation after the approval of the library. Book sets must be compensated with the whole sets, and the borrowers have no rights to keep the remaining books.
    3. Attachments must be compensated with the genuine copies.
    4. If original copies cannot be compensated, a fine will be asked for the lost copies. The fine will be double the price of the copies obtained by the library. Donated books will be priced at NT$200; the fine of each donated book thus will be NT$400.
    5. Overdue books will be fined, starting from the due date.
    6. You can return the book once you have found the book and cancel the lost report. Overdue fines will still be charged if the book is overdue.
    7. If the lost books are found after you have compensated for the loss, no refunds will be made and the lost books will be kept by the original borrower.
      • If you think there is possibility to find the lost book, you can renew and look for the book during the period to prevent associated fines.
      • Lost or damage report must be done at the original library branch circulation desk where you borrowed the book.
      • Fines will be accumulated for overdue report of the loss.
      • Compensation should be done during library opening hours at the circulation desk.
  7. Reviewing Your Personal Loan Records

    Please go to:lib webpac

    1. The password is the last 4 digits of your personal ID card for all students. You can change your own password.
    2. If you forget your password, you can update your password during library opening hours at the circulation desk.
    3. Service provided: Basic reader information, reader authorization information, password update, loan status, loan history, online-borrowing info, reservation status, fine records and contacting the library.
  8. 8. Book search service:

    If the book status is “available” but cannot be found on the shelves, you can fill out a “help search” form at the circulation desk, and the library staff will search the book for you. If the book cannot be found, the book status will be updated as “missing”.

  9. 9. Book Status:

    Explanations of book status during catalog search:

    • Order Sent – Purchase order has been sent and it is uncertain if the book can be purchased - book cannot be reserved.
    • Registered – The book is purchased, being archived and ready to be reserved. If there is an urgent demand, please make reservation.
    • In Transit – The book is archived and ready for transit. Reservation is available. If there is an urgent demand, please fill out the rush catalog reservation form at the circulation desk.
    • Available – The book is currently in library and ready for loan.
    • On Loan – The book is loaned and can be reserved, an e-mail notification will be sent to the first one who made reservation after it is returned.
    • Retained – Specially reserved for readers; waiting to be picked up.
    • Reserved – Reserved and waiting to be picked up. Can be borrowed for reading in the library only, please ask the circulation desk for more information.
    • Waiting to Be Shelved – The book is returned and in transit to the original branch.
    • Missing – The book is currently missing and is being searched.
    • Lost – The book is lost and waiting for compensation.
    • Withdrawn – The book is damaged or lost, waiting to be withdrawn.
    • Not Available for Loan – The book can only be used in the library and cannot be loaned.
    • On Display – The book is currently on display at the Library Center in the Business Building “New Book Display section” and is temporarily unavailable. Reserve is available once it is off display.
    • Department Books – The book belongs to a specific department library. Please contact the department library if you wish to borrow it.
